The private-client model

You make the decisions. We coordinate the Spanish legal execution.

  • One Spanish-law point of coordination
  • Property, residency and corporate work sequenced together
  • Representation by power of attorney where legally and practically available
  • Independent tax, banking, accounting and other specialists coordinated when required
  • Discreet, professional communications subject to Spanish professional duties

One legal point of coordination

One Legal Point of Contact for Spain

A complex move can involve a Spanish lawyer, notary, tax professional, bank, real-estate agent, translator, accountant, corporate-services provider and multiple public authorities. The legal risk is not simply that one task is difficult. It is that the tasks are handled in the wrong order or without a single strategy.

Spain Law NYC handles Spanish-law work within the professional scope of a Spain-licensed attorney and coordinates appropriately qualified independent professionals when a matter requires tax, accounting, U.S. law, financial, translation or other specialist work.

Your move should not require you to personally manage lawyers, banks, notaries, registries, translators and administrative procedures separately.

Representation

Representation by Power of Attorney

Many legal and transactional steps can often be completed through properly drafted powers of attorney, subject to the requirements of the specific transaction, notary, bank and applicable law.

A power of attorney can reduce unnecessary travel and allow counsel or another authorized representative to complete defined acts in Spain. It does not mean every act can be delegated, and a notary, financial institution or public authority may require the client's personal participation in a particular case.

We can be your legal presence in Spain when you cannot — or simply do not want to — manage every step personally.

Corporate

Spanish Companies and Ownership Structures

When legally appropriate, Spanish counsel can coordinate Sociedad Limitada incorporation, bylaws, directors, powers, NIE/NIF requirements, notarial execution, Commercial Registry filings, corporate-bank onboarding and ongoing governance with independent accounting and tax professionals.

Privacy does not mean secrecy from regulators. Lawful structuring may reduce unnecessary public exposure or administrative friction in appropriate circumstances, but beneficial-ownership, AML, KYC, tax-reporting and corporate-disclosure duties still apply.

Banking

Spanish Banking & Financial Coordination

A relocation or property transaction may require bank-onboarding preparation, NIE/NIF, source-of-funds records, KYC documentation, transaction-funding coordination, mortgage communications or banking powers where a bank accepts them.

Spain Law NYC provides legal and banking coordination within scope. Investment advice, regulated financial advice and individualized tax advice are not presented as services personally provided by Spain Law NYC unless handled by an appropriately authorized independent professional.

Residence

Residence Without Administrative Chaos

The visa is only one component of a successful relocation. Residence timing may need to be coordinated with property, banking, family documentation, NIE, tax analysis and the practical sequence of the move.

The correct residence route depends on the facts. See the Visa & Residency hub, Non-Lucrative Visa and Digital Nomad Visa.

Tax

Cross-Border Tax Coordination

Spanish legal planning often reveals tax questions before the client has chosen the right tax adviser. Spain Law NYC can identify where specialist analysis is required, integrate it into the transaction timeline and coordinate with the client's U.S. CPA or adviser and appropriately qualified Spanish professionals.

Spain Law NYC does not provide U.S. tax advice. See Cross-Border Tax Coordination.

Succession

Succession & Estate Coordination

Spanish property, family structures and long-term residence can create succession questions involving Spanish wills, inheritance, beneficiaries and Spain-side estate administration.

Spain-side legal work can be coordinated with the client's U.S. estate-planning counsel. Spain Law NYC does not present Spanish bar admission as authority to provide U.S. estate-law advice.

Family

Relocating a Family

A family move can require spouse and child residence planning, Civil Registry records, apostilles, sworn translations, school and healthcare resources, insurance coordination, pets, vehicles, padrón and other onboarding steps.

Spain Law NYC remains legal counsel rather than a lifestyle concierge. Where practical services fall outside legal scope, the role is to coordinate appropriate professionals or reliable resources when the engagement calls for it.

Private client operating model

You Should Not Have to Become an Expert in Spanish Bureaucracy

Private clients should not need to determine which registry, bank, notary, consulate, municipality or professional handles every component of a move. The legal coordination role is to identify what needs to happen, in what sequence, which professional handles it, what documentation is required and which decisions genuinely require the client's involvement.

01

Map the work

Property, residence, company, family, documents and specialist issues.

02

Sequence it

Avoid solving one workstream in a way that complicates another.

03

Represent

Use legal representation where the specific act and institution permit it.

04

Coordinate

Bring in properly qualified specialists without misrepresenting their work as attorney work.

Professional duties

Attorney Confidentiality and Professional Duties

Spanish legal practice is subject to professional duties that include professional secrecy, independence, conflict-of-interest rules and confidentiality obligations within their applicable legal and professional scope.

Those duties do not eliminate mandatory legal disclosures, court orders, AML/KYC obligations or other requirements imposed by applicable law. The service therefore avoids absolute claims such as “100% confidential.”

Privacy-conscious execution

Discretion by Design

Private-client service can use discreet communications, secure document handling, limited unnecessary dissemination of personal information and need-to-know professional coordination where appropriate.

Discretion remains compatible with beneficial-ownership rules, AML, KYC, tax obligations and mandatory disclosures. The objective is lawful, controlled handling of information while respecting all mandatory disclosure and transparency duties.

Direct answers

Private Relocation Questions, Answered

Can a lawyer handle my relocation to Spain?

A Spain-licensed lawyer can handle Spanish legal work and coordinate related professionals. Practical steps outside legal scope may require banks, tax advisers, accountants, translators or other providers.

Can an American buy property in Spain remotely?

Often, substantial parts of a purchase can be handled remotely through counsel and properly drafted powers, but the exact transaction, notary, bank and compliance requirements determine what can be delegated.

Can my lawyer sign documents in Spain for me?

Certain acts can be completed by an authorized representative using a valid power of attorney. Some acts or institutions may still require personal participation or additional formalities.

Can an American form a company in Spain?

Yes, subject to Spanish corporate, identification, notarial, banking, tax, beneficial-ownership and registration requirements. The correct ownership and management structure depends on the intended activity and broader tax/legal analysis.

Can one lawyer coordinate residency and a property purchase?

Yes, Spanish legal strategy can coordinate the residence and property workstreams so timing and documents are considered together, while independent specialists address matters outside the lawyer's direct scope.

Can my Spanish lawyer work with my U.S. CPA?

Yes. Cross-border coordination can connect Spain-side legal decisions with the client's existing U.S. tax adviser, while each professional remains responsible for advice within their own qualifications and jurisdiction.

Do I need to be physically present in Spain to buy property?

Not necessarily for every step. Proper representation can often reduce travel, but whether a specific act can be completed remotely depends on the transaction, power, notary, bank and applicable compliance requirements.
