Spanish nationality is not a single procedure. The correct route, competent authority, documents, declarations and personal-appearance requirements depend on the applicant's legal basis and circumstances. The Ministry of Justice distinguishes different ways of acquiring Spanish nationality. For people residing abroad, some declarations and Civil Registry procedures are handled through the competent Spanish Consulate.
