Most document requests can be prepared or coordinated remotely, but some procedures require the applicant or an authorized representative to appear personally. The linked authority controls the current requirement for the exact procedure.
Spanish birth certificates are issued through the Civil Registry system. The New York Consulate publishes specific instructions for certificates relating to records in its consular demarcation; the correct request channel depends on where the birth is registered.

Passport issuance itself is handled by the competent Spanish authority, and the current New York procedure requires the applicant to follow the Consulate's appointment and personal-appearance rules.
Official passport requirements — New YorkNIE and NIF are different identification procedures. A NIE obtained through a consular procedure does not itself grant a right to reside in Spain. The current NIE procedure requires the applicant or duly accredited representative to appear personally.

The translator remains responsible for the certified translation. Translation fees and timing are confirmed for the specific request.
Spanish-law work for U.S.-based clients
Not every cross-border matter is a visa or property purchase. Spain Law NYC may also accept Spanish inheritance, civil, family, contractual, administrative, litigation, or urgent matters when they fall within the professional scope and can be handled responsibly from the United States with appropriate Spain-side coordination where required.
For U.S.-based heirs, beneficiaries or families dealing with an estate in Spain, assistance can include identifying the Spain-side succession procedure, obtaining or coordinating Civil Registry and title evidence, NIE and powers, notarial steps, Spanish property or registry follow-up, and coordination with independent qualified tax professionals where inheritance-tax analysis or filing is required.
The applicable succession rules depend on the facts, including the deceased's circumstances, estate assets and any relevant testamentary documents. Spain Law NYC provides Spanish-law assistance; U.S. probate, estate-planning or U.S.-tax advice must be handled by an appropriately qualified U.S. professional.
Spanish family, civil, contract, or related matters are assessed individually because jurisdiction, procedure, and required local participation vary by case.
Administrative requests, appeals, representation issues, and other Spain-side procedures may be handled directly or coordinated with an appropriate independent professional where necessary.
Existing-property, registry, title, power-of-attorney or related Spain-side issues that do not form part of a new purchase are assessed according to the actual legal problem rather than being forced into the property-purchase package.
